Problem Two - At the Movies

At the Movies

Brave won The Academy Award, last year for Animated Feature Film. Ticket prices in our area during the run of this film were approximately $12.50.

The year I was born, Gigi won a total of nine awards one being best picture. During that year, my parents could purchase a movie ticket for about $0.70. Had they seen a musical on Broadway, tickets would have cost about $7.75.

If ticket prices for musicals rose at the same rate as did those for movies, what would it cost to see a musical version of Shrek?

Bonus: Imagine that the size of the dollar bill has grown in proportion to the movie prices. What would its size have been when Gigi was in the movie theaters?

Find out what Broadway tickets really cost today. Are you surprised? Was our model a good predictor? Why or why not?

  1. If the tickets used for Broadway used to be $7.75, then the tickets now would cost $138. I got this answer because if the tickets for Brave were $12.50, and the tickets for Gigi was $0.70, I then dived the cost of Brave tickets by the cost of Gigi ticket, which equaled to about 18 dollars. I then multiplied $0.70 by 18 and got $138.

  2. The ticket for Shrek would then cost about $138. I got this because since Brave was $12.50 and Gigi was $0.70, I multiplied $0.70 by 18 because I had divided Brave ticket cost by Gigi and then got 18,then multiplied. The predictor was a good model because it helped give me a good estimate of price. I was most definitely surprised me.

  3. If we get a ticket in Broadway now it would not be $7.75 anymore it, would be around $131. I got this answer by dividing the prices of Brave, and Gigi into two's, so Brave it would be 6.25 and Gigi's would be 0.35. I divided 6.25 and 0.35, and I got about 18. I multiplied 18 and $7.25 and I got 130.5 but I rounded it to the closest whole number that is 131.

  5. basically you divide $12.50 by $0.70 which is 17.857142 repeating so you round it to about 18 then multiply $0.07 by 18 to get $138.

  6. To find out the cost to see a musical version of Shrek, I would first multiply the prices of the movie ticket and Broadway ticket. So that would be $12.50 and $7.75. My answer was about 97 dollars. Lastly, I would divide 97 by $0.70. I would then get $138. So to see a musical version of Shrek it would be $138.

  7. Broadway tickets used to be $7.75 and Gigi tickets were 0.70 nowadays most movie tickets cost about $13.00 so if I divide 13.00 by 0.70 I get 18.57 rounded would be $19.00 so $19.00 multiplied by 7.75 is would be $147.25 rounded would be $147.00 so Broadway tickets would cost $147.00 nowadays. 10. The answer is $138. I got this answer by checking the cost of the tickets today. Most cost $12.50 today to go watch movies. Then I divided the cost of the tickets of today and the tickets for Gigi was $0.70, and it had equaled to about $18. I then multiplied $0.70 and $18. The answer was $138.

Probably 100 or more dollars because Shrek was a popular movie.

Bonus: Imagine that the size of the dollar bill has grown in proportion to the movie prices. What would its size have been when Gigi was in the movie theaters?
    About $6.70 or $7.70.

Find out what Broadway tickets really cost today. Popular shows coast about $100 to $130. Not so popular shows coast about $40 to $100. Are you surprised? Yes. Was our model a good predictor? Yes. Why or why not?I’ve seen rich people on T.V. go to broad way musicals, and I know tickets are probably pricey. It’s just hard to believe that tickets use to cost only $0.70.

  13. To find the amount of Broadway tickets, the first thing that I did was to multiply 12.50 by $7.75. My results ended up as $96.88. After that, I multiplied my answer to $.70, and I ended up with $67. I added $67 with $96.88 and my answer is about $163.00.

  14. The answer of the question is $138. how i got my answer was i checked the tickets of today and as you can see the tickets of brave is $12.50. For the gigi was 0.70. so for the both of them you have to divide the numbers so you get $18. So then i had to multiply the numbers 0.70 and $18. and i got 138 dollars ~ T.V Period 3

  15. I think the tickets would cost 138 because if you divid 12.50 by 0.70 then your answer would be 18 then you multiply that by 0.70 and your answer would be 138

  16. I subtracted $0.70 from $12.50 and i ended up with $11.08 so then i added that to $7.75 which equaled to $18.83 .
    The tickets are $18.83.

  19. I think that the Broadway would be 139.5 because 0.70 times 18 equals 12.60 which is very close to 12.50. The answer would be that the money grow 18 times more.
